  1. The notion of drive states is interesting. The description of the particular states is not altogether convincing. Basic criticism: Not much development/content for a book.

If you’re considering the CGC test, you already know pretty much everything in this book. The only thing in this book that is not in every single other training reference I’ve ever seen is the “Motivation Method,” which may be just fine, but when I looked at the references for that method… every one of them is another book by the authors of this book. In short, read the free AKC book and a real training book; this one is a waste of time.

I bought this book to help my dog pass the CGC and not as a basic training book. We had already passed three obedience classes. The last one was specifically geared towards the CGC. So this book was a good review and fill in the gaps book. Although we had taken a CGC geared class I did not feel ready until we reviewed with this book. It accomplished what I wanted. I have recommended it to several others at my local AKC club.

  4. The book is a very detailed useful tool. Easy to follow & understand-comprehensive and friendly positive reinforcement training…

It was damaged before packaging-it has “slice” marks in it from what appears to be a box cutter-a bit disappointing-since the person packaging it would have see the damage before shipping it to me.

This book is great for training especially for a newbie to dog training. Very easy to understand how to do the basics and work from there. I recommend it highly and so do my two Havanese. Bottom line it is up to you to put in the time needed to reach the goal we have reached. It is well worth it.
